Nadsroic & Hudson Mohawke - Room Mist EP

LuckyMe is very proud to present the first release from the collaborative project between Nadsroic and Hudson Mohawke. This EP contains 6 tracks of explosive future R&B , folk influences and dancefloor heat. With a mixture of club-friendly bangers such as Room Mist and Step Back and more reflective personal songs like Leopards and Chemical alongside All Hot- an almost unclassifiable blend of live percussion and ethereal diva vocals.

Nadsroic is the singing / rapping alias of Ciorsdan Brown alongside the young phenom' producer Hudson Mohawke. To date the young team have only played a handful of shows as Nadsroic including Radio One Sessions and live alongside Optimo - for whom they are also releasing a record on their Oscarr imprint. Ciorsdan was schooled in the Scottish Highlands immersed in folk music before being dropped in the ugly Glasgow metropol of hip hop, techno, electro & club music. With spells living in Copenhagen and currently based in semi-rural Japan it's hard to say where this 22 year old jetsetter picked up her natural sensibility for real pop and future R&B. When she's not teaching children, go see her in a rare live show either back home in Glasgow or Japan.

Based in Glasgow, UK, 23 year old Hudson Mohawke currently has the worldsʼ beat scene in a headlock with his heavy drum programming and cosmic synth slop. A teenage UK, DMC and ITF champion, Hudson honed his craft as part of the LuckyMe collective of dynamic, neo-beatmakers with a string of well received releases. In January this year he made his debut release on Warp records with the "Polyfolk Dance EP" and has been dubbed the labels 'secret weapon', clocking up serious international mileage with an impressive dj schedule. This release sees Mo explore his love of mainstream hip hop & rnb fused with the air of 1980's synthetic soul. We hope you enjoy the record.

Hudson Mohawke - Rising 5

Hudson Mohawke has been working on fresh beats for his first full-length. It's now ready for public consumption, and he's decided to give the "attempt at a sort of prog rock meets vintage soul meets sleazy R&B aesthetic" the title Butter.

Two cuts from this year's Polyfolk Dance EP will get a second outing on the record ("Velvet Peel" and a new version of the title track which now goes under the name of "3.30") as well as his "Star Crackout" track, but the rest of the album contains totally fresh material, with collaborations from Nadsroic, Oliver Daysoul and LA-based boogie aficionado Dam Funk all set to feature. Check out Rising 5 below, which has a very triumphant feel to it and make sure you pick up Butter in October on Warp Records

Pixelord - Quartz Boy

Moscow-based, Alexey Devyanin is better known as The Pixelord, a producer of experimental music. His debut four-track EP "Lucid Freaks" brings forth a mixture of spliffed-out 8bit riddims, stumbling Hip Hop beats and a pinch of Euro Dance glam. He's been compared most consistently to Hudson Mohawke, which you hear echoed in his tunes as well as bass-driven digital Reggae, Jahtari-style. The Lucid Freaks album is available in 192 kbit at no charge or you can purchase it in higher bitrate HERE
Watch out for Lucid Freaks Pt. 2 the remixes!

Jack Splash – King of the Beats Mixtape

Jack Splash’s, King Of The Beats, is the second of three mixtapes to be released before the much-anticipated full-length album and film, Technology And Love Might Save Us All… out in May on J-Records.King Of The Beats takes you further down Jack's rabbit hole to reveal instrumental tracks like, “Disko Labyrinth” and “The Funhouse Has Mirrors,” that sound as if they came straight off a Lamont Dozier album.

It’s no question why Jack Splash decided to call the second installment of mixtapes, King Of The Beats. Not only has Jack Splash compiled an impressive amount of songs to release before an official album, every song is an original composition created by the man himself. Each track has been carefully crafted and produced by the same hands that created music for such talented artists as Jennifer Hudson, T-Pain, Estelle, Jamie Foxx, Missy Elliott, Jazmine Sullivan, Shakira, Britney Spears and more. Truly, King of the Beats.

Album Review - Nickodemus - Sun People

Nickodemus, the Brooklyn based producer and deejay/creator of one of the longest running outdoor dance parties in New York, Turntables on The Hudson, drops a nice one on us for summer 2009. Sun People (ESL Music), is Nickodemus' second full length effort, featuring a bouquet of characters representing all parts of the globe. Imagine traveling to Puerto Rico, Columbia, New York, Guinea, UK, (and a few other spots), and the sun is shining upon arrival of each destination, with people dancing in the streets..

The production is very tight, as most dance music is in general, but the live instrumentation and vocalists seem to help loosen things up, adding a bit more swing to the rhythms once all of the pieces are fit into the puzzle. Nickodemus' way of combining urban beats and multicultural sounds, makes him (and world music) indefinitely more "accessible" to the average dance clubber, attractive to names like Apple in the advertisement world (see Mi Swing es Tropical), as well as creating an interesting listen for people who enjoy global music.
Release date is set for June 16, so mark your calendar and pick it up at one up at your favorite place to buy music.

In The Booth
Sun People (Intro) (feat. Ismael Kouyate) - Nice traditional instrumental with keyboard drops throughout. Ismael Kouyate on vocals but only about a minute and a half in length. I'm sure there will be a full version coming soon.

La Lluvia (feat. Richard Shepherd, produced with Quantic) - Co-produced by Quantic, so you know its got that deep Latin flavor. On point vocals and horns makes this a top contender for favorite track..

weRISEweFALLweRISE - Starts out as an experimental hip hop type of track where the drums and multilayered woodwinds take the stage, but just when you thought it was over, the track morphs into a house tune..much props on the transition here.

Junior Star gives Sun People a 5.75 out of 7 head nods.

Head Nod Scale
1=Don't waste your time like I did mine.
2=Waste your time like I did mine but I dare you to disagree.
3=Well, there was the single.
4=If it were a hand in spades there's "two and a possible".
5=It's a "good" album. Meaning at least 3 or 4 solid songs.
6=Really Good Project. Has the "Rewind Factor" more than once.
7=The number of completion. Great Album. Instant Classic.

DYNOOO - Gum Dragon EP

DYNOOO’s Gum Dragon is centered around Fuh Real, a song that features Swedish singer Naboobia laying down a floaty vocal over a high-end 80’s r&b inspired club banger. It has already been remixed by Luigi (Jazzy Sport, Infinitskills) and Comfort Fit, whose version appeared on his latest full-length. The rest of the mini-album is a collection of glitching electronics that ranges from soothing (Furbee) to smashing (Cawf Drop)
and psychedelic (Will Flattened, with Richard Colvaen of Bretzel Zoo). Rooted in hip hop’s rich soil, but definitely branching out beyond the edges of the genre, DYNOOO’s music is for fans of the likes of Daedelus, Samiyam, Hudson Mohawke and next-gen beatcrafters alike.

Gum Dragon sounds exactly as you’d imagine after perceiving its hyperreal cover (designed by the man himself): a refreshing collage of complex sound pieces and colorful lo-fi.
