For those who may not know about an event that I've been hosting for a lil' while now (2 years and 2 months to be exact), the next joint is this Sunday June 8th, 2pm-5pm at Birmingham's premiere vinyl shop, Charlemagne Records located at 1924 1/2 11th Ave. South across from Starbucks, next to Surin West, down from Golden Temple on the city's Southside. What is
Waxpoetics Sundays you ask?? Its a monthly deejay set promoting vinyl culture (yes, records) and one of the best music magazines in print
Wax Poetics. Last month and the remaining summer months will be sound system style (aka outside in front of the store), so be prepared to get your groove or chill on to some great music by myself and guest deejays
Jubal John, Don Johnson and whoever wants to bring some vinyl to spin-the more the merrier! Magazines will be available at a special discounted price upstairs. Thanks to Jimmy from Charlemagne, Andre (Wax Poetics) and everyone that has supported the event thus far!
Speaking of thanks, last Friday's (May 30) Sofa Sessions at
Malcolm's Reading Room was a blast! I'm not sure which was more fun-talking to and seeing all of the people that came out or spinning all types of music without someone asking to play..well I won't get into that....Big up Rahdu for another great time. I'm not big on name dropping, but thanks to
Jeru & Twyla,
S.Fly and Fam,
JP,
Thed,
Sharrif, Rosemary, Ife, Ramone,
Inas, Antonio & Sahana, Sharifa,
Selector C,
Freevoice,
Jessica,
Mikhailia, TLa, others I just met, and those who I didn't get their names and/or I omitted (miss you
Neenah!).. and my beautiful wife Stacey and the babies..thank you for hanging out. A big thank you to Simone and Courtney (and Malcolm) for making it happen. I hope its not rude to put you all's names out there, but it
was great seeing you.
Peace.
