*Sampled* Teddy Pendergrass... RIP
So the sexy soul brother & Grammy award winning voice and song writer that was Teddy P has passed. As sad as this may be, we have to be glad for the legacy he left behind, and the babies he helped create.
Starting out as a drummer and lead singer in church, Teddy eventually became the drummer for The Cadillacs who later merged with Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, of whom he became the lead singer. He achieved significant success with Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes but went on to be a success on his own. In 27 years he released 20 albums [1977-2004], 19 hit the US R&B charts &/ the US Pop charts, 12 of those were in the top 10, and 7 in the top 5. All 33 singles hit the charts, but you're not surprised to hear this... you know as I do that Teddy was about greatness.
Five years into his solo career, he had a life changing accident which left him paralyzed from the waist down with limited use of his arms. As we're well aware, that didn't stop or dilute his music. It's safe to say he got better with each album and the rest is history on wax. His contribution to the music industry will always be appreciated and I'm sure one of the "music" networks will give him his just praise and awards. Unfortunately, like most greats, he'll receive it posthumously. We here @ BamaLoveSoul however, just want to say thank you to Teddy Pendergrass for the musical legacy he has left behind and we hope to hear great samples of his music in the future. RIP Teddy, much respect...
