Tamara Wellons - Smells Like Teen Spirit

If you re looking at this picture and reading the title of the song and wondering how it may sound, believe me Tamara Wellons more than freaks this song. She jazzes it up and as a result has created a "cult favorite among soul music fans." Her album, Life Is, is in stores now and contains other reworkings of standards, for example her mashup of the Bossa classic Corcovado, but it also has some great original tracks. You can hear the majority of these on her myspace page, but a lot of my favorites don't appear there, which is more reason to buy the album, right ;). Life Is contains a blend of soul, jazz and house and debuts on Ocha Records, a joint venture between House DJ/Producer Carlos Mena and Osunlade. The album features production by Osunlade, Carlos Mena, Wale Oyejide and Kokayi. Pick it up!
