General Steele - A Toast to Brooklyn featuring Buckshot and Jo Chris

General Steele, of Smif N Wessun Presents: Welcome To Bucktown (In Stores 5-5-09), the first official release on the Bucktown USA Imprint. The soundtrack delivers some of Brooklyn's finest emcees: Boot Camp Clik, Sha Stimuli, Shabaam Sahdeeq of Polyrhythm Addicts, UG of the Cella Dwellas, Blahzah Blahzah, Smoothe Da Hustler, and Trigger Tha Gambler. General Steele mentions that he wanted “artists who fit the cast so to speak; who could carry that 70's energy naturally through their personal contributions. I carefully picked out each track and then I wrote down whom I would like featured on that particular song. Everyone who is featured on this soundtrack did so out of love and respect, which we all share for each other and is what this project is about…our love and supreme respect for the game and what we bring to it. I salute each and everyone who participated.

Production on the album is from Da Beatminerz (of Black Moon), DJ Revolution, Ayatollah, 7VEN H.D., Che Triumph, Sic Beats, J. Scrilla, Kevorkian & Suaze.

Welcome to Bucktown, the soundtrack, was inspired by the 1975 Blaxploitation film Bucktown. The soundtrack takes the listener through modern day Bucktown, AKA Brooklyn, as coined by the rap duo Smif-N-Wessun circa 1994, and explores the evolution and current conditions through the eyes of hip-hop Brooklyn artists. General Steele proclaims “I didn’t try to copy the film or the soundtrack, but the concept and the feel of it. I was able to relate to what they where going through with the police and with their own comrades and I wanted to depict that vibe & energy with the songs and the artwork.”
