Foundcake 'September' + 'Human Nature'

I may be the only person I know that digs J-Pop, but I hope you won't hold that against me. Don't get it twisted though, those Japanese got soul, and Foundcake certainly has it in spades. I came across her tracks while doing some music scavenging for something different. Her J-pop infused covers of classic soul and R&B songs are getting a lot of attention on the Japanese lounge scene and after one listen I can tell why. The way she sings and stays in tune with the melody is almost mesmerizing. On 'September' an Earth, Wind, and Fire cover that captures the spirit of the original and is instantly catchy that I can't help but sway along to it. I especially love her cover of one of my favorite Michael Jackson ballads 'Human Nature' while she she doesn't capture the pain and emotion that MJ put in the original, her rendition is almost upbeat and puts a new twist on the song. I can imagine myself in a Tokyo lounge club listening to her cover my favorite soul/r&b jams with her own little J-Pop spin on it. I gotta be sure to check her out in person when I go to Japan next year. So take a trip with me and try some Foundcake!
