Sa-Ra - Nuclear Evolution: The Age Of Love Album Review

Sa-Ra lets you know why they were summoned at the beginning of the album. They have been called to play; Play on their instruments, play with your mind, and play in the simplest definition of the word, as in TO HAVE FUN. This full length album carries on in the typical Sa-Ra tradition with a plethora of synths, trippy drums, & spaced out vocals. Nuclear Evolution sees the production trio branch out more this time adding more ingredients to their repertoire which are sure to shock and delight.

There are many unexpected treats, such as traces of Bossa on the first track, Spacefruit. Nuclear Evolution even contains an increased jazz presence with instrumental jams such as Souls Brother and appearances by sax man Gary Bartz. This doesn’t mean that the funk isn’t spoken for on the album; Love Czars sounds like Motown’s Funk Brothers were reassembled to “take you way out” of what you’re used to from Sa-Ra. Spacy soul is what you’ve come to expect from the trio and is abundant throughout this release. For example, check the melodic keys, dirty drums and Noni Limar on I Swear which is threatening to become one of my favorites alongside The Bone Song. Exhibitions in breaking down/creating genres, most notably Move Your Ass, are done well and even become “go to” tracks as you experience the evolution.

Most surprising to me are the more conventional tracks (My Star) or songs that sound like they could have been on The Hollywood Recordings (Can I Get U Hi, Gemini’s Rising). Although more conventional sounding, they are solid. There is only one track that interrupts the natural flow of Nuclear Evolution to me (Traffika), and I feel like I’m being petty for mentioning it. That aside I encourage anyone to pick up Nuclear Evolution and have a (Cosmic) Ball. DJ Rahdu gives Nuclear Evolution 6 out of 7 Headnods.

Head Nod Scale
1=Don't waste your time like I did mine.
2=Waste your time like I did mine but I dare you to disagree.
3=Well, there was the single.
4=If it were a hand in spades there's "two and a possible".
5=It's a "good" album. Meaning at least 3 or 4 solid songs.
6=Really Good Project. Has the "Rewind Factor" more than once.
7=The number of completion. Great Album. Instant Classic.

I don't know. There's too many people that download and post illegal content like that.

Think about it, artists don't get paid much and stealing isn't quite gonna make it for them. Who cares about the wait. If it's an album that's worth it, it's a definite get. But it's all about the content and the support.

Just sayin'.
